A group of Southeast Asian students joined the 2025 TMU ELITE STUDYING PROGRAM in Taiwan, taking part in cultural learning, hands-on service, and field exploration. This one-day trip brought them to New Taipei City’s Shuangxi District, where they experienced how compassion, community care, and local culture come together through volunteer work and travel. The morning began with Tzu Chi Medical Volunteering, where students were divided into small groups and visited different elderly households. Guided by Tzu Chi volunteers and medical staff, they provided basic health consultations, shared warmth and conversation, and learned how community-based care is carried out in rural Taiwan. After completing the service, the students were **interviewed by Tzu Chi volunteer media, reflecting on what they learned from serving the elderly and how compassion can be practiced through simple, meaningful actions. The group then enjoyed a hearty lunch with Tzu Chi volunteers, experiencing the warmth, gratitude, and down-to-earth spirit that Tzu Chi culture is known for. In the afternoon, the students headed to Jiufen for a quick cultural adventure that incorporated challenge-based tasks. While walking through the old streets, completing missions, and exploring the town’s unique hillside charm, they connected with Taiwan’s local culture in a lively and memorable way. By combining medical volunteering, community interaction, and cultural exploration, this trip offered students a deeper understanding of service, compassion, and Taiwan’s everyday life.
