It had been a while since our last service-learning activity, yet the passion and sincerity on site struck us just as deeply as ever.

Last weekend, we led our New Southbound students to join a medical service event organized by Tzu Chi. The program offered free health checkups for international migrant workers in Taipei Main Station, supported by Tzu Chi’s Medical Association physicians and nurses, Tzu Chi volunteers, and medical-background students from TMU Tzu Ching.

We were honored to serve alongside such a dedicated team. The event covered multiple specialties—including dentistry, traditional Chinese medicine, dermatology, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology, otolaryngology, internal medicine, and mental health. Our students were assigned according to their medical backgrounds, assisting with translation, patient guidance, and supporting the physicians. Their participation made medical communication more accurate and efficient.

This was more than a service activity. It was a rare opportunity for our students to witness Taiwan’s medical strength up close, in a real cross-cultural setting—and to experience how healthcare becomes a tangible form of kindness that they can personally take part in delivering.
